Bowls report – 16.01.10

By Alan Clarke – League Director [email protected]

A very interesting week with one or two surprise results. The Alvor Greens travelled to Tavira to do battle with the Tigers in dull and damp conditions and found the hosts in no mood to give ground.

Greens eventually won the match 53-45, but had to share the points four apiece. Meanwhile, over at Albufeira, the Cats took full advantage and defeated the Valverde Vulcans by a crushing 76-27, walking away with the full eight points.

Both PDF teams were at home, the Sinners have had a lean time recently, but rallied well today (January 16) to beat the in-form Harlequins by 60-48, the points however, being shared four each.

The Crusaders took a leaf out of the Sinners’ book and hammered the Pedras Panthers by 94-28, taking all eight points. Valverde Vikings were at home to the Algarve Amigos and won by 60-45 and six points to two.

The final match was at Alvor, between Alvor Gladiators and the Amendoeira Nuts, who have been enjoying a bit of a revival lately. The Nuts continued their good form with a good away victory by 66-41 and by six points to two.

No change at the top, with the Greens still out in front on 86 points and the Cats in hot pursuit with 77. Crusaders benefit from their good win and leap to third on 62 points – just ahead of the Gladiators’ 61 and the Tigers’ 60 points (both stumbling this week).

Harlequins are now sixth with 59 and Panthers have 55 in seventh position. Vikings are on 46 and the Amigos have 42, while the Nuts move closer to the pack on 35 points. Sinners had a welcome win and now have 27 points, while the Vulcans remain on 12.
