Pedras Bowling Club are the latest group to join the Bowls Portugal Federation with the club that play from Cabanas now joining the existing five clubs that already make up the federation.
Bowls Portugal are the sole representatives of World Bowls in Portugal and have been working to unite the bowling clubs of western Iberia since President John Hewitson and his team were elected at the AGM last November.
On being elected, John Hewitson said that he pledged to unite all bowlers and clubs in Portugal and 10 months on, while the Federation has made headway with these objectives, the members continue to strive for further unity.
A new Bowls Portugal season will now begin in October with new leagues aimed at stretching the skills of bowlers.
The Premier League will continue together with a new Tens League being introduced comprising teams of single, pairs, triples and fours. Premier League and Tens matches will be played on alternate weeks with each club allowed only one team.
Once the season is underway, an Australian Pairs League will also be introduced which will allow clubs to put in as many individual pairs teams as they like enabling further competitive bowling opportunities in the region.
Further social and competitive events have already been planned by Bowls Portugal including a Christmas weekend break and the Bowls Portugal Championship due to take place in November.
Individual bowlers can have Bowls Portugal membership for €5.
