An active recruitment drive by members of Bowls Portugal has seen the federation, which is recognised both by World Bowls and the sports council of Portugal, attract more than 100 members.
The bowling clubs of Vila de Luz and Valverde have both also signed up as full members of the federation, together with the Isla Canela Club in Ayamonte, who have become associate members together with existing members in Vilamoura.
The new memberships mean that almost half the bowling clubs in Portugal are now members of Bowls Portugal while the committee continues to work to encourage more clubs to come under the World Bowls banner.
As Bowls Portugal is a legally constituted democratic body, it is also encouraging individual members to join, whether or not they belong to a bowling club which is associated to the Federation.
Tony Gilbert from Bowls Portugal said: “This encouragement has meant the hundred mark has now been passed for fully paid up members, and more individuals are expected to sign up in the next few weeks as the new Bowls Portugal Premier League gets underway.”
He added: “Bowls Portugal has a sponsorship partnership with euroFINESCO and like our partners, we aim to foster a friendly cooperative atmosphere in
all our activities.”
To join the Bowls Portugal Federation costs €5 per person and allows members to play in the Premiership League and also to play for Portugal.
