Whilst the south coast of England was being battered by high winds and torrential rain, twenty-nine members of the Atherley Bowls Club from Southampton were enjoying the sunshine of the Algarve.
Staying at Pedras da Rainha Sports & Beach Resort in Cabanas de Tavira the group enjoyed many of the local leisure facilities but the highlight of the visit was the final day bowls’ tournament last Monday. The immaculate green at Pedras da Rainha saw the home club win by 143 to 118.
Andy Patterson, President of the Atherley Bowls Club, said, “We’ve had a wonderful time and the hospitality we have received has been second to none.” Following the tournament over fifty guests settled down to a superb lunch followed by a musical cabaret by Irish singer Gary Vesey.
Local organiser David Reilly enthused about the tremendous camaraderie, “Everyone has been most complimentary and we look forward to welcoming more groups over the coming months.” www.algarvebowls.com
