Bowls Algarve’s Inter-Club Finals

Finals week for the Inter-Club competition was held at Balaia, a totally neutral ground as the club did not succeed in having a team through to the finals.

Day one – Wednesday, March 14 – and the forecast rain only made a brief appearance during the lunch break.

M. Dance of Alvor prevailed against S. Kinane of Floresta in the Ladies Singles – this was M. Dance’s sixth Ladies Singles title.

In the Men’s Singles, D. Austin of Pedras won against N. Roberts of Floresta.

The afternoon saw the Ladies Pairs with M. Dance and S. Currall of Alvor winning against G. Hogg and C. Williams of Floresta, while in the Men’s Pairs D. Reilly and B. Holt of Pedras won over G. Hargreaves and T. Norman of Floresta, after a closely-fought match going to an extra end to decide the winner.

Day two – Thursday, March 15 – and the weather was holding. The Mixed Pairs began with A. and J. Parr of Albufeira winning against S. and G. Kinane of Floresta.

The Mixed 4’s also took place at the same time with P. King, M. King, B. Holt, and V. Holt of Pedras taking the points from C. Le Poideven, C. Heselton, C. Wright, and J. Scott of Tavira.

The afternoon began with the Triples having D. Austin, M. Mullane and J. London of Pedras prevailing over B. Walker, M. Ellis and W. Seed of Alvor after a very tight game.

In the Open 4’s, A. Parr, G. Noonan, R. Bland and A. Reynolds of Albufeira won against T. Crawford, I. West, B. Holt and L. Bateman of Pedras.

Pedras have had a very successful first year of participating in this competition, winning four of the eight disciplines.

All the bowling was of the highest standard, showing why these bowlers have succeeded in winning through to the finals. The games were as entertaining and exciting for the many spectators as they were for those participating in the games.

The rinks at Balaia were well prepared and everyone enjoyed their games. Thanks go to Richard King of Balaia for all his hard work co-ordinating all the scores and keeping everyone on track (never an easy task!). Thanks also go to the Markers and Umpires who officiated in all the games.

Congratulations to all winners and to all Bowls Algarve bowlers who participated and made it such an excellent competition.
