Bowls Algarve winter league

The Bowls Algarve inter clubs winter league has drawn to a close with CPO Cats taking the honours.
Due to the non availability of their green, the Cats had to play the first half of the season at Tavira. This meant extra travelling for the team plus playing on grass instead of their carpet.
At the half way stage, they were 5 points adrift of Alvor Greens but they recovered well in the second half of the season and the final result went to the wire.
The Cats topped the league with 62 points with Greens second on 58 – a fine tribute to their captain John Laskey who suddenly passed away on February 17.
Alvor Scorpions and Alvor Amigos were 3rd and 4th respectively with 52 points and the rest of the placings were Tavira Tigers (50), PDF Foresters (48), Alvor Gladiators (38), Balaia Whalers (34) and PDF Rangers (33).
Congratulations to CPO Cats on their success and many thanks to all bowlers who took part in bringing the league together.
Preparations are underway for the summer league, played during May and June, and teams wishing to enter (2 triples per team) should contact their club convenor as soon as possible to ensure entry.
Next week I hope to bring you all the winners from the Bowls Algarve inter club championships. Tom Daly
