Bowls Algarve Summer League Finals

Alvor Bowling Club hosted the Summer League Finals on Thursday, July 6. All eight teams assembled at 10.30am for an 11am start. The weather was hot and sunny and the green well prepared, with plenty of spectators to watch what turned out to be a very enjoyable morning’s bowling.

Tavira Tigers went into this game with a fairly unassailable lead, and went on to take the points and the trophy with 47 points. Alvor Kestrels fought hard to catch them but, at the end of the two sets, were just one point short, with 46 points.

Pedras Panthers were in third place with 40 points. Balaia Dolphins remained in fourth place, Valverde Vikings were in fifth place, Alvor Egrets in sixth place, Valverde Vulcans in seventh place, with Floresta Falcons the strongest team, holding up the league from the bottom. Many congratulations go to the team at Tavira.

Thanks should go to Zé Martins of Alvor for hosting a good match, and to David and Rene Berbridge for arranging the matches and keeping everyone informed of scores and progress through the league season.

In keeping with their fundraising activities, Balaia Bowls Club are again having a big push to raise more funds for the Albufeira Voluntary Bombeiros. The next event is a sponsored 24-hour bowling marathon on September 16 and 17. Anyone wishing to make a donation or pledge should contact Richard King (Club Chairman) on mobile (00351) 935 367 492 or email [email protected]

Floresta Bowls Club green is open to all Bowls Algarve members, but members should contact George Humphreys (georgehumphreysceltic6[email protected]) to reserve a rink in advance before travelling.

Albufeira Cats home ground at CPO is closed for the summer.
