Summer was still eluding the Algarve with rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday, but someone was smiling on bowlers in the Algarve, as for Thursday, June 21 the weather cleared and a beautiful day dawned. The game was hosted by Alvor Bowling Club, with all eight rinks in play at once, and the usual friendly, warm welcome.
Albufeira Wildcats were beaten by Tavira Tigers who took all 10 points. Pedras Panthers took four points from Alvor Kestrels who won six, Valverde Vulcans held six points from Floresta Falcons winning four, and Valverde Vikings and Alvor Egrets shared the points with five each – making for several changes taking place in the middle and the bottom of the League Table. Balaia Dolphins were the resting team this week.
Balaia Dolphins still maintain their top spot in the League Table with 41 points, though their position is not unassailable, with joint second place changing to both Valverde teams – Valverde Vulcans and Valverde Vikings – on 35 points each.
Pedras Panthers and Floresta Falcons are chasing very closely behind on 34 points each.
All four teams chasing Balaia Dolphins are still in contention and could change the top of the table within the last two games. Albufeira Wildcats are the strongest team in the League supporting the entire table from the bottom, and having only one game left to play, as their resting week is the final week, unlikely to change.
With only two games left in the season, plans are well in hand for the final game to be hosted by Floresta Bowling Club on Thursday, July 5, who are arranging a hog roast for the afternoon, when the trophy will be presented.
