Tuesday, May 30 was a very hot morning for roll up at Balaia Bowls Club, but great bowling was enjoyed by all who attended.
The summer seems to have arrived in the Algarve and on a warm sunny Thursday, June 1 Floresta Bowling Club hosted the third game in the Summer League. Floresta Falcons took the points on the day and returned to the top of the table, Tavira Tigers are following closely behind, snapping at their heels. Balaia remains in a strong position, supporting the entire league from the bottom.
Friday, June 2 was another hot day for Balaia’s usual roll up, but was supported by a hardy few; those who had played the day before taking a well-earned rest.
The Summer League now has a week’s break whilst some of its members go to Spain to take part in their regular annual competition with some expats who live in Spain and enjoy bowling as much as we do.
In keeping with their fundraising activities, Balaia Bowls Club are again having a big push to raise more funds for the Albufeira Voluntary Firefighters (Bombeiros). After the success of the parachute jumps last year, which raised over €5,000, and the recent donation of over €1,100, the next event is a sponsored 24-hour bowling marathon on September 16 and 17.
Anyone wishing to make a donation or pledge should contact Richard King (Club Chairman) on mobile 935 367 492 or email [email protected]
Balaia welcomes bowlers of all levels, new or experienced, and has its roll up on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9.45am for 10am start.
