Bowls Algarve raises funds for RBL’s Poppy Appeal

Congratulations to David Howard, Dave Bridgewater and Ruby Fribbins of Floresta Huntsman on their maximum score of nine shots, frequently known as a ‘Hot Shot’, against Tavira Tigers.

At 11am on Remembrance Day (November 12), the bowlers gathered at Alvor Bowls Club held a respectful silence before bowling commenced.

Twelve triples from clubs along the Algarve then played a friendly but very competitive series of games for the Jubilee Cup.

Each team played three sets of six ends against different opponents for each set, with the winners being the team with the highest shot difference across the three sets. The bowling was then followed by a sociable lunch. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed the day.

Of course the object of the exercise was to raise additional funds for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal and it was successful in that regard as well. With levies on the game and the lunch plus some generous donations, we were able to hand over €485.

This was received for the Royal British Legion by Ian Galloway who also presented the Cup to the winning triple of Angie Peschardt, Geoff Bailey and Maggie Dance (pictured). Well done to all who participated.

This week’s league results see Albufeira Cats at the top of League A with 26 points, whilst the Alvor Amigos are at the top of League B, with 25 points.

The Super 10’s Competitions is being hotly contested by Albufeira and Valverde both on 23 points each. All to play for.
