On a sunny, warm Wednesday (March 8), Balaia hosted a memorial day to remember past members. A trophy and prizes were donated by Peter Moss and Julie Sanderson, who both have lost loved ones in recent years.
The trophy was won by Roy Bland, Terry Ewart and June Burgess from CPO who won all four rinks; Peter Moss, and Peter and Jean King were runners up winning three rinks. The prize donated by Private Fund Management was won by George Humphreys of Floresta.
The morning was enjoyed by all who participated as well as spectators, and also raised €400 for Balaia’s Albufeira Bombeiros Fund. Thanks went to all who supported the event.
Friday, March 10 saw the Algarve doing what it does best, producing yet another sunny day, enabling Balaia to welcome Crediton Bowls Club visiting team. The green was bowling very well and a good day was had by all who participated, involving much noise, mirth and laughter. The bowling was followed by a light lunch in the warm sunshine.
Saturday, March 11, was another sunny day for Balaia Bowls Club to play their Bowls Algarve League matches. The Whalers played away against Floresta Huntsmen winning one rink. The PODS Team played at home against Alvor Amigos winning one rink. This maintains the PODS in 14th place in the League and Whalers maintain their 6th place.
Balaia welcomes bowlers of all levels and has its Roll Up on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9.45am for 10am start.
