The beautiful weather continues. Sunday, March 17 was St Patrick’s Day and was celebrated by many clubs.
The bowling green at Albufeira’s CPO (now rebranded as MGM) was awash with the colour ‘green’. Many bowlers arrived to play fun games and enjoy snacks and drinks afterwards. A fun afternoon with much laughter was enjoyed by all, with a sing-song afterwards. This came as some light relief after the many weeks of build-up to the Inter-Club Finals.
Sunday, March 24 was the evening of the presentation dinner. This was held at the Hotel Baía Grande in Albufeira and began with pre-dinner drinks. An excellent three-course dinner followed, with free-flowing wine, before the presentation of the trophies.
A very pleased proud owner of Floresta, George Humphreys, and his team collected the cups for Leagues ‘A’ and ‘B’; and the Super 10’s Competition, a very successful year’s competition for Floresta Bowls Club.
Albufeira Bowls Club (CPO) collected their silverware, the Cameron Cup. This took care of the main Club Competitions, before the proceedings moved onto the Inter-Club Competition where medals are presented.
Floresta was again very successful in these competitions winning seven out of eight of the categories, with Pedras winning the last one. Congratulations to all the participants in all the competitions.
After the presentations, the evening moved on to the dancing which went on until the small hours. A fabulous evening by anyone’s standards, and an excellent way to round off what has been an outstanding bowling season.
Thanks should be passed to Frances and Alan Reynolds of Balaia Bowling Club for organising the event, to all the members who help to co-ordinate all the results throughout the season, to Richard King of CPO for organising the Inter-Club competitions, and to Margaret Wilson of Valverde Bowling Club for providing the Finals venue. Thanks also to the staff of Hotel Baia Grande for providing an excellent evening.
I will sign off for this winter season, so we can concentrate on enjoying the visiting teams. I will return when the Summer League season begins, which is only around the corner, and, like everyone else, look forward to a summer season as good as the winter season has been.
