Gladiators scratch Cats, Crusaders Punish Sinners

The two matches outstanding from week 14 were completed during this week.
Valverde Vulcans visited Pedras Panthers and came away with a hard-earned victory by 56-52, collecting a much-needed six points against two.
In the other game, PDF Crusaders travelled to play the Valverde Vikings and a very close match was eventually won by the Crusaders 46-44 and by six points to two.
Saturdays’ games saw the Alvor Amigos at home to the Pedras Panthers and the Amigos won an emphatic victory by 70-36 and six points to two. Leaders Alvor Greens hosted the Valverde Vulcans and strengthened their stranglehold at the top of the table with a 66-43 win and another full count of eight points.
Valverde Vikings meanwhile, were at home to the Amendoeira Nuts and cracked them open by 56-44, taking six points against two. Tavira Tigers had a very tense encounter with the Alvor Harlequins, Tigers taking the honours (but only just) by 46-45 and by five points to three.
Albufeira Cats needed a good result at home to the Alvor Gladiators to keep up their challenge to the Greens at the top of the league table. The Gladiators were in no mood to give ground however and shared the points four each, although the Cats won the match 53-47. Finally the two PDF teams clashed in a match won easily by the Crusaders 77-40. Crusaders scored six points to move up to fourth and the Sinners earned two points.
The table shows Greens out in front on 106 points, whilst the Cats now have 89 in second. Gladiators have 79, just one ahead of the Crusaders with 78 points. Harlequins now have 76 and the Tigers have 69 points in sixth. Panthers are on 59, Amigos and Vikings both have 56, whilst Sinners now have 41. Nuts total 37 and the Vulcans have 20 points.
