Bowling tribute

A day of fundraising is being organised to pay for a Macmillan nurse for a month, in tribute to a popular member of the Parque da Floresta Bowls Club, near Budens. Ron Lewis was visiting family in the UK during Christmas when he was diagnosed, and unfortunately never returned to his home in Salema.

Now, members of the club are organising a charity event in his memory as part of Macmillan Trust’s campaign – World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. The event will take place on Friday, September 27, starting at 10.30 am.

There will be an all-day bowling competition and free bowls lessons for anyone who would like to have a go, during lunchtime and after the competition.

Coffee and cakes will be on offer all day (cake donations most appreciated), and lunch will be provided by The Spice Cottage in Burgau, Jake’s in Luz and Lynne and George, who run the club. There will also be cakes for sale and a tombola, as well as a grand prize draw with some of the best donations to be auctioned. So far donations have been received from Michel Roux, James Martin, Wembley stadium, Silverstone, Dover Street Jazz Bar, London dinner cruises, PDM Travel in Lagos, Santo António Golf Resort, Barroca Restaurante in Luz and many others.
