Bowling season – penultimate week

Bowling season – penultimate week

We have reached our penultimate week of our bowling season. Thursday, June 27 was a beautiful, hot morning. Our host this week was Floresta Bowling Club in Luz, near Lagos. The heat was bouncing off the concrete beneath the carpet, but the green behaved well for those brave enough to play. Thanks should go to George Humphreys, the owner of Luz Bowling Club for his hospitality, and to Lynne and Paula for keeping everyone hydrated and fed at lunch time.

Week eight saw the teams battling it out for their places. Tavira Tigers took three points from Balaia Dolphins who won seven points; Albufeira Wildcats won eight points from Pedras Panthers who won two; Valverde Vikings suffered at the hands of Floresta Squirrels who won all 10 points, the highest scoring team this week; Alvor Kestrels took two points from Floresta Falcons who won eight points; whilst Valverde Vulcans took six points from Alvor Egrets who won four points. The outstanding match between Albufeira Wildcats and Balaia Dolphins was played on Friday, June 28, another hot day. Albufeira Wildcats won four points with Balaia Dolphins taking six points. This brings the table up to date.

This makes Valverde Vulcans, with 63 points, almost unassailable, but with one more game to go, Tavira Tigers will be certain to give their last game a really good try, as they are on 54 points. Floresta Squirrels are following closely behind on 50 points. The middle of the table is where most changes can happen as it is very close in the centre. Positions six to nine in the table are all able to change. Floresta Falcons are the strong team this week with 21 points.

Next week is our last game of the season, where we shall be at Pedras da Rainha and the winners will finally be decided.
