Bowling club ends season with hotly contested matches

THE INTER-club bowls competition finals were held at the Clube de Bowling at Parque da Floresta recently, which brought to a conclusion a well-contested and friendly session of matches held over the last few months.

The final of the singles between Ken Catherall and Ed Keighley was hotly competed for in the early stages with Ed pulling clear to win with a margin of 21 points to seven.

The pair’s final was contested between Ed Keighley and Paul Johnson against Max Hodges and Ron Nutter. Ed and Paul proved to be to powerful opponents, winning 39-7. The triples final was played in an exciting atmosphere between Paul Johnson, Thelma Johnson and Max Hodges, against Ken Catherall, Margaret Catherall and Jack Brammer. The game was hotly contested to the final end, with Paul’s team gaining victory with a score of 19-15.

The new club competition this year was the Ladies Championship singles, contested by Bev Forshaw and Bev Posser, with Bev Forshaw proving a formidable opponent and winning with a 21-8 margin.

The two wood final, normally played at this event, was held over due to the unavailability through injury of one of the contestants.

Janice Clarke presented the traditional club trophies to the victors, together with some fine engraved individual trophies for all finalists. Janice congratulated all the winners and commiserated with the losing finalists, praising all who participated for their sportsmanship and spirit in which the competition was played.
