A judge at Évora county court has ruled that Borba mayor António Anselmo must indeed face trial for the murder of five men, all of whom perished when a road collapsed into a disused quarry (click here). The reason for charging Mr Anselmo stems from studies into the road’s parlous condition and consequent lack of official follow-through. Mr Anselmo told reporters he didn’t even know the road was unsafe.
