AN AUSTRALIAN driver has been fined for putting a seatbelt around a crate of beer instead of a five-year-old who was travelling in the car.

Constable Wayne Burnett said he was “shocked and appalled” to discover the driver’s priorities when he pulled the vehicle over south of Alice Springs.

According to the officer, the child was sat on the floor in the vehicle while 30 cans of beer were secured with a seatbelt.

The driver was fined 750 dollars for driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle and failing to ensure a child was wearing a seatbelt.
