Booming office market as businesses ‘grow’

2014 has brought some good news for the property market: the demand for office space is growing – particularly in Lisbon – thanks to the opening of new businesses.
According to Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), office sales were up 65% in the first two months of the year, translating into 10.891 square metres of new office space – a leap on figures for the previous year.
There has been a boom also in movements on the rental market, writes Dinheiro Vivo. In February alone, new businesses accounted for 55% of office occupancy – although JLL explains existing companies have contributed to these numbers, by taking on new offices as they expand.
The “most dynamic businesses” responsible for the good news are IT and service firms, adds JLL, saying these account for 30% and 22% of the rental market respectively.
