Quiz for the Animals has returned for the winter season with the first event being held on Saturday, November 5 at Quinta das Oliveiras, Poço Barreto, raising more than €760.
Mike Wakeford opened the proceedings by reporting completion of a €3,000 project for the construction of a dedicated puppy area at the Donkey Sanctuary in Estômbar (see Algarve Resident, October 21 edition).
From the money raised on the evening, some went towards paying off the enclosure project, leaving €620 for new projects, such as a new neutering programme.
Quizmaster Chris New told the Algarve Resident: “Verna Kinder and Robbie New, with food contributions from several players, produced a magnificent supper which disappeared at half time and the evening ended with the usual raffle.”
The bonfire night theme included a sparkler lit Bonfire Cake and a picture quiz of famous “Guys”, ranging from Guy De Maupassant to Guy Burgess.
Chris said: “Once again a huge thank you goes to the hosts, Philip and Verna Kinder, for the use of the house as a venue.
“Although the team try to make it as painless as possible, it is necessary to move out virtually all the furniture and then put it all back on Sunday morning!”
Thanks also went to the competitors and local business supporters, who supply raffle prizes.
“We are indeed very fortunate in that there are almost no costs associated with the evening so virtually all the proceeds go directly to help the animals,” said Chris New.
