Tuesday, May 16 Balaia Bowls Club saw a big turnout for their usual roll up, but this meeting was to finish slightly differently. Towards the end of the morning a fire engine and truck arrived at the club – thankfully not for any serious event but to pick up a further donation of over €1,100, collected via various fun infringements of bowling etiquette from the many visiting teams and members themselves over the last couple of months.
Commander António Coelho and his men brought with them a mannequin to display the new uniforms they had already ordered with the funds. The firefighters, including Commander Coelho, all tried their hands at bowling, some with more luck than others, before going off to resume their watch-keeping duties.
Thursday, May 18 was the start of the Summer League for Bowls Algarve, arranged by David Berbridge of Albufeira Bowls Club. The first game was held at Alvor Bowling Club on a beautiful spring morning. The games are played with all teams playing on the same day, in the same location. After this first game, Floresta Falcons took the top slot in the table.
Balaia welcomes bowlers of all levels, new or experienced, and has its roll up on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9.45am for 10am start. All are welcome.
