As the terror alert is on everyone’s minds, a bomb hoax was called through to firefighters in Rio Maior, warning of a “simultaneous attack” on two of the town’s large supermarkets, Pingo Doce and Continente. The voice of a man, described as “over the age of 30” has since been traced to a phone box in nearby Santarém. Both supermarkets were closed while police swept the premises for explosives.
As nothing suspicious was found, the supermarkets opened hours later, as normal.
If found, the man responsible for the hoax will face charges for “threats and coercion”, reports Diário de Notícias.
