Terreiro do Paço, the noble square on Lisbon’s Tejo river frontage, was the scene of a bomb scare on Tuesday evening after an eagle-eyed policeman noticed “abandoned baggage” in the ferry terminal that links the capital with Barreiro.
Bomb squad professionals were called and boats and traffic delayed, but the alert was called off after the ‘baggage’ was found to be nothing more than two empty shoeboxes.
