Bomb scare at Portimão Maxmat

PORTIMÃO MAXMAT, the DIY superstore, received a bomb threat by telephone last week. Within minutes of the alarm being raised, at around 11.40am, customers and staff were safely evacuated outside the building.

The police brigade arrived at the scene soon after, and an exhaustive search of the store concluded that there was no bomb in the premises. A spokesperson for the store praised the thoroughness of the police’s investigation, adding: “This incident proved that our well trained staff are able to stay calm under pressure, with their main concern always being the customer.”

Maxmat reopened after the police left the scene. The staff were said to be calm and confident that the police had carried out their job efficiently, guaranteeing that there was not a bomb in the store.
