The body of an 84 year old German man was found by maritime police on a Lagoa beach on Monday, December 29.
They were alerted at 10am on Monday after a woman telephoned the GNR in Carvoeiro after allegedly finding a suicide note at home.
A lifesaving team was sent from Portimão to Marinha beach, where the body was discovered on the shore.
The body was taken to the morgue at the Hospital Barlavento do Algarve in Portimão where an autopsy will be conducted.
It is understood the man, who lived in Carvoeiro, fell to his death from the cliffs between 3am and 8am on Monday. It is thought that his immediate family is in Germany.
