The body of the German holidaymaker, who disappeared three weeks ago while boating in Bravura Barragem, was found last week about one kilometre from the scene of her drowning.
Susana Dervil, 42, disappeared when a pedalo, which she was riding with her six-year-old son and five-year-old nephew, overturned. The children were able to save themselves, but indications are that Dervil was somehow knocked unconscious while in the water under the craft.
A team of divers was called off on August 16, but searches continued on the water’s edge. The Commander of Lagos Bombeiros Voluntários maintains that “the low temperatures at the bottom of the dam” may have contributed to the delay in the re-emergence of the body.
