Body of missing triathlete recovered from Minho river

The body of missing triathlete Rafael Sá has finally been recovered from the Minho river.

23-year-old Ricardo went missing during an event last Sunday (click here).

Searches since then had failed to locate his body, which appeared early this morning “floating alongside the outdoor pools of Vila Nova de Cerveira”.

According to local ports captain Pedro Cervãens Costa, this was undoubtedly because the temperature of the waters is “very warm, which will have accelerated floating”.

There has been some controversy in this story about whether support kayaks were suitably equipped to effectively help swimmers taking part in the event if they got into difficulties.

For now, the body has been transported to the local morgue where it will be autopsied.
