A little before 3am this morning, searchers sifting through the rubble of the building in Lisbon that suffered an explosion and subsequent collapse on Sunday discovered the body of missing 24-year-old musician Gastão Reis.
Searches that had been ongoing since the incident have now been declared ‘concluded’.
Explain reports, it’s still not totally certain what caused the explosion but everything points to a gas leak.
Gastão was the bass guitarist and singer in Zarco – a band that belonged to the Cuca Monga collective.
He was ‘at home’ in the apartment he shared with his father and sister . It’s understood the sister was staying the night with an aunt and so escaped unharmed.
Gastão’s father is one of the injured. Four others were hurt but have subsequently been released from hospital.
The building however has been completely destroyed – and inspections are ongoing today to check on the structural safety of adjoining properties.
