The body of a 13-year-old boy who dived into the Tejo yesterday afternoon but never resurfaced was discovered early this morning, caught by an underwater cable.
Searches for the boy went on throughout Sunday afternoon, halting only when darkness fell.
They resumed at 6.30 this morning, and shortly afterwards police divers discovered the body, 15 to 20 meters from the pontoon from which the child dived.
Everything indicates that the boy drowned unable to free himself.
Authorities involved include maritime police psychologists who will now be supporting family members.
