Authorities suspect body is of missing Austrian

The body of a man in an advanced state of decomposition was found on Monday at Praia da Ponta Ruiva in Vila do Bispo.

The victim has not been identified but authorities believe it could be the Austrian man who has been missing since he was swept out to sea in a rip current last Thursday at Praia da Bordeira in Aljezur – around 20kms away from the beach the body was found.

The missing man was last seen in the sea with another Austrian man who died after being removed from the water by surfers.

Jornal de Notícias reports the Austrian Embassy was going to be contacted to see if it could help identify the body.
