The body of a man was found on Saturday (July 16) at Portimão’s wastewater treatment plant, known in Portuguese as an ETAR.
The man’s identity thus far is a mystery.
The body was apparently found in an area with sewage water by an ETAR security guard, according to CMTV.
Portimão port captain Santos Pereira said the man did not have any identification on him.
The reason the man ended up in the wastewater centre is still unknown. Lusa news agency points out that the ETAR is only accessible by foot to people who work or are authorised to be there.
Whether there was any sign of a crime has also not been revealed.
PJ police are investigating.
