PJ police are investigating whether there are signs of foul play
The body of a 70-year-old Portuguese woman was found floating today in the Arade River in the parish of Estômbar and Parchal in Lagoa.
Authorities were alerted by clients of a hotel located on the one of the banks of the river who spotted the body and called the 112 national emergency hotline.
The cause of death is still unknown, Portimão port captain Rodrigo González dos Paços told Lusa news agency, adding that PJ police are investigating whether there are signs of foul play.
The victim’s death was declared on the spot by a doctor from the National Medical Emergency Institute (INEM). Members of local maritime police, firefighters and Ferragudo lifeboat station were also called to the scene.
