Boavista backs bombeiros

news: Boavista backs bombeiros

Members of Boavista Clube de Golfe held their annual charity day recently. This year, in view of the devastating fires that have ravaged the area over the last two summers, the members decided to donate the proceeds of the event to the Fire Victims Charity and the Lagos Bombeiros.

The golfers enjoyed a great event, playing an am-am team competition during the day, followed by a prize presentation dinner dance at the Hotel Tivoli Lagos. The total amount raised at the event was just under 4,000 euros, which will be divided equally between the two charities.

Club Captain, Sid Hyams, commented: “The Boavista members have become renowned for their fund-raising efforts and, this year, it was great to see support being given to those unfortunate families who have suffered losses as a result of the fires, as well as to those who have to risk their lives in the course of their duties.”

Sid went on to thank the main sponsors, Pebble Pools, Luz Ocean Club and the Hotel Tivoli Lagos, as well as the Fontanário Restaurant and the Ninfa Bar, both in Espiche. Club members, Brian Chadbourn and Stan Hill, also gave generous support and Proper Golf 2000 of Alvor donated a driver and putter as prizes.

The winners of the tournament were Lori Arnold, Marijke Rombouts, Paul Meyer and Joost Rombouts with 91 points. In second place, were Maureen and Alan Bowden, and Barbara and Paul Gretton with 88 points. And, finally, in third place were Jenny and Nigel de Ritter and Maureen and Tony Blunt who finished with 87 points.
