Boating show Farnáutica returns to Faro

Sea takes centre stage in Faro

Faro is gearing up for the return of the town’s boating show Farnáutica to Jardim Manuel Bivar between Thursday and Sunday (May 5-8).

After being suspended for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event will once again feature a display of recreational boats and other nautical equipment. Organisers say around 20 institutions and companies linked to the sea sector will also take part.

Delicious seafood will also be another highlight of the event, with several ‘tasquinhas’ (stalls) serving everything from fried or grilled shrimp to clams, oysters and the Algarve’s famous ‘xerém’ corn porridge.

The goal of the event is to “strengthen Faro’s relationship with the coast, the sea and Ria Formosa, by cementing its history, culture and identity in which the sea plays a crucially important role,” the Faro parish union said in a statement.

Admission is free. The event runs from 11am to 11pm.

Other sea-related events are also planned for this week in Faro. The inaugural edition of the town’s K1 canoeing tournament is scheduled for Saturday, May 7 and will bring around 100 athletes to the town to compete along the Ria Formosa, while a conference focusing on the potential of the sea will take place on Thursday afternoon, May 5 (visit www.uf-faro.pt to sign up).
