Boat trips more expensive

PLEASURE BOATS running up and down the River Tagus at Lisbon could soon be taxed beyond the reach of the ordinary citizen if the government gets its way.

At question are the typical and traditional pleasure boats that run up and down the river at Moita.

The government has now billed them as ‘Recreational Luxury River Transport’, which could be subject to higher VAT taxation rates.

The opposition believes that these traditional ferries should actually receive a subsidy from the state for their preservation and not be taxed.
