Boat master dies in tourist boat horror in Portimão Marina

Three passengers transported to hospital; 11 treated at marina for light injuries

A 43-year-old tourist boat master died today after losing his balance and falling into the water at Portimão Marina while trying to set anchor.

The semi-rigid 8-metre boat appears to have run the man over (details not fully explained).

He was recovered “already dead” from the water after the second mate had managed to stop the boat.

The drama was assisted by the 16 passengers on board, 14 of whom suffered light injuries – three to the extent that they required treatment in hospital.

Reporting on the incident which happened mid-morning, Correio da Manhã spoke with Portimão ports commander Luís Pousadas Godinho who said that an inquiry has been opened and the Public Prosecutor’s Office has been informed.

The name of the boat was given on air by CM as Arco Sea 1 (see photo). This has been confirmed by the AMN (national maritime authority).
