Boat was spotted by fisherman
An abandoned high-speed boat carrying around 6.3 tons of hashish onboard was found this Tuesday morning around five nautical miles south of Olhão’s Armona Island.
Authorities were alerted at 10.45pm by a fisherman who found the boat adrift and loaded with several bales of what appeared to be drugs.
Maritime police from Olhão and Tavira were dispatched to the location along with Portuguese Navy ship NRP Hidra. The boat was towed to Faro’s commercial port, where a total of 180 bales of hashish were found inside.
The drugs were due to be handed over to PJ criminal police.
