Blue flags

Algarve beaches will receive six new blue flags this year, equalling the region’s record of 2006 with a total of 54 beaches that passed the test criteria.

The blue flag association revealed earlier this month that some beaches in the country had lost their flags this year, including Albufeira’s São Rafael beach. The Algarve’s Pego Fundo, Carvoeiro, Vau and Porto de Mós beaches have met the criteria this year to have their flags reinstated.

This year, beaches across Portugal will have 226 blue flags, 33 more than in 2008.
