Catarina Martins, coordinator of left-wing Bloco de Esquerda, has appealed to President Marcelo to “rapidly promulgate diplomas reinforcing social support measures in the context of the pandemic crisis”. She stresses: “There are 130,000 people receiving just €200 a month” and without jobs or any other support, they simply cannot survive. Ms Martins was speaking in the context of a story by Expresso this morning that suggests PS Socialists are threatening to take the diplomas to the Constitutional Court if Marcelo does indeed give them his rubber stamp.
