Video rental company Blockbuster Portugal has filed for insolvency after revenue slumped by 60 per cent, the association of audio visual businesses in Portugal (ACAPOR) told Lusa news agency.
ACAPOR blames internet piracy for the loss of 100 jobs and accuses the authorities of doing little to protect private investment.
“Online piracy is a crime and is affecting real people,” ACAPOR told Lusa. “The lack of efforts to fight illegal downloads is shameful.”
According to the association, more than 120 video clubs closed down last year.
