One woman is left with the gift of sight after the entire population of her city is afflicted by a blindness epidemic.
Those first afflicted are quarantined by the authorities in an abandoned mental hospital where the newly created ‘society of the blind’ quickly breaks down as criminals and the physically stronger prey hoard what little food there is and commit horrific acts.
The woman feigns blindness to care for her husband and lead a small group out of quarantine and onto the streets of the city, which has seen all traces of civilization crumble.
