Portugal’s consumer watchdog DECO has launched an online “fraud detector” to identify Black Friday scams.
The tool can be used by anyone who wants to make sure Portuguese online stores haven’t bumped up prices recently only to slash them for Black Friday. As DECO found out last year, this actually happens a lot.
“There was a TV that cost €1,099. Days before Black Friday, its price went up to €1,799 only to be sold for €1,439 during the Black Friday sales,” the association says.
With this new tool, buyers can type in the website link of the product they’re interested in and see its price variation over the last 30 days.
