Biting the hand that feeds you

Dear Editor,
So, according to the Secretary of State for Tourism Adolfo Mesquita Nunes, Portugal’s tourism is on a roll!
I wish to say to the said gentleman, ‘not for long’, if he or the powers-that-be keep coming up with schemes to extract money from the tourists with rental licences or Energy Efficiency Certificates. Tell me, what does he mean by “revenue from tourism’s satellite account”?
If this means what I think it means, is this why we have lost BBC programmes from our satellite televisions and are about to lose more?
The British have helped to provide a lot of jobs in this part of the Algarve, and certainly patronise the restaurants at this quiet time of the year and more so later on. The Brits have spent millions buying new property here, so how about a little appreciation, not knocking us for all you can get.
I love Portugal, the people, the food and climate. ‘Biting the hand that feeds you’ comes to mind.
