PORTUGUESE PRESIDENT Cavaco Silva admitted last week that he was worried about the declining birth rate in Portugal.
Speaking in Gouveia, following an official visit to Guarda, Cavaco Silva said: “I cannot believe that the Portuguese have lost their enthusiasm for bringing new lives into the world.”
He also said that a declining population coupled with migration away from rural centres was also responsible for a lack of companies and business enterprise in the interior of Portugal.
