Bird watchers from around the world are expected to flock to Sagres later this year for the third annual Bird Watching Festival, taking placing between September 30 and October 7.
Last year, more than 700 people participated in the festival, recording a total of 116 species of birds. Again this year, a variety of activities for twitchers of all ages will be provided during the festival, promoted by Vila do Bispo Câmara, environmental organisation Almargem and the Portuguese society for the study of birds (SPEA).
Some of the planned activities include field trips in the local area led by expert guides, boat trips to view different species, ornithology lectures, meetings and environmental education opportunities.
Swedish author Erik Hirschfeld has confirmed his presence at the festival, where he will be presenting his latest book, The World’s Rarest Birds, at a time when the International Union for Conservation of Nature prepares to review this list.
