Attendance at the biggest national event dedicated to bird watching, held in Sagres between September 30 and October 2, surpassed the expectations of the organisers.
More than 700 people participated and 116 birds were sighted at the event, the second to be held.
The number of foreign visitors increased significantly this year, with bird lovers from Sweden, Denmark, the UK, Holland, Germany, the US, Canada, France and Spain attending.
Participants spotted 16 different species of birds of prey, 14 species of marine birds and also observed a very rare and endangered bird in Portugal, the codornizão (corncrake).
The event was promoted by Vila do Bispo Câmara in partnership with environmental associations SPEA and Almargem.
Preparations have already started for next year’s event.
