Biologist travels Portugal making inventory of ‘centenarian’ trees

Biologist Raquel Lopes has set out to document Portugal’s centenarian trees, explaining that many are being left to ‘fall into abandon’ simply because people do not appreciate their worth. Thus, her mission: to raise awareness of Portugal’s ‘monumental trees’ which date back in certain cases to Biblical times. A mighty olive, found in the Pedras del Rei development, in Tavira for example is 2,210 years old.
