Bioblitz registers “rare butterfly” in Barreiro forest

A rare Portuguese butterfly has been registered during a Bioblitz event (“Biodiversity for everyone”) in Barreiro, outside Lisbon. The Portuguese White (Euchloe tagis) was detected in the Mata da Machada forest. This is a ‘good sign’ for conservationists as it means the area is a “bioindicator for quality and sustainability of habitat”. Bioblitz events take place in the forest on the first Saturday of every month.
