GNR officers are going back to school to learn English in time for the Pope’s visit in May.

Around 70 GNR officers are learning the language in order to be able to deliver a “high quality service” to the thousands of pilgrims visiting the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima for the May 13 reunion, which this year welcomes Pope Benedict XVI.

A GNR spokesman for the Tomar GNR, which operate in the area of Fátima, told national daily newspaper Correio da Manhã that “the force will be better prepared for the large numbers of foreigners visiting the Sanctuary this May”.
