Bilingual Carol concert for charity

The annual Larga Vista Residents Association Bilingual Carol Concert, held on December 19, was again hailed a success by organisers.

More than 70 people of all ages and nationalities packed into the dining room at the Restaurante O Foral to exercise their vocal chords on a wide range of Christmas songs.

Duncan Kinnell provided excellent backing music on the keyboard and Teresa Santos’ impressive group of Portuguese singers led an enthusiastic and festive audience through an array of popular English and Portuguese carols.

Highlights included Barry Wills singing the perennial favourite I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas, and youngsters Ruben and Nara Santos leading everybody in the Portuguese classic A Todos um Bom Natal.

However, judging by the applause, the most admired song of the evening was Teresa and her team’s lovely version of John Lennon’s So This is Christmas (entitled Então é Natal in Portuguese).

A total of €215 was taken in a collection to purchase food items for the most needy in the local area.

This was later boosted further by a donation of €95 from the Larga Vista Petanque Association.

The food was purchased before Christmas and donated to the Freguesia in Algoz for immediate distribution in the town.
